August, 2025 – my choice for the last photograph of all my stories
This photograph has become and will remain “my photograph at the end of my life“.
I took it at the end of 2023 when I realised that my illness could never be stopped. In that November, I saw the scene in the Masai Mara Savannah, in Kenya. It was not an impulsive photograph, it was a meditated photograph, lived to the full.
In its simplicity, consisting of a horizon, a tree and an Eland antelope (for me the most beautiful of all its African cousins), walking towards that distant line, there were all my thoughts.
Those who see the photograph are in the right position. They are still, motionless. In front of them, a slow journey towards the unknown and now inevitable horizon.
Africa is my home and, just like any other creature on earth, it lives a time to be born, grow and go. It is, for everyone, the great, eternal circle of life, including mine, which is about to come to an end.
